Monday I woke up with a tickle in my throat that left me coughing for quite awhile. Fun. I went to wallyworld for a few things, including more rapid covid tests, but I’m still testing negative.

While laying in bed feeling crummy the last few days I’ve been doing a lot of reading and my creative writing brain cells are finally firing up again. It happens once or twice a year, and each time I add a bit to the book I started back in 2008, during Jeremy’s first deployment. Though the original draft of that book has changed drastically, I’ve got enough ideas for a three book arc now. I’ve actually been able to finally solidify a lot of the main plot points for that arc, the lack of which has held me back for years. I am not a seat of the pants writer and I want to know my story arc so I can keep it in mind as I write. Not that I have time to write right now, but if I come up with enough of the back story and plot points now, then when I do have time to write I should be able to make a lot of progress in a short amount of time.

Maxi must have done something wrong since she only curls up right at my feet like this when she’s misbehaved or been traumatized by a wasp sting (out of season for them)

Tuesday we had online music lessons. It was a bit chaotic because of a lot of grumpiness on everyone’s part. The boys need to be outside more, Sunshine and I need to be feeling better (and sleeping better- I woke up coughing after two hours of sleep and it took a couple more hours to get back to sleep) and Max really needs more exercise so she’s not getting into trouble all the time.

I finally got my ADHD eval scheduled for next Thursday. Turns out we didn’t need the referral after all. I’m really hoping he doesn’t gaslight me and that he actually takes the time to listen to my issues.

I’m starting to freak out about the timeline between now and my first homeschool convention of the year. There’s only 3 weeks till we need to leave. I’ve ordered and received a new display setup (lighter weight and hopefully easier to move than the one I used last year) and made my hotel reservations for both conventions, but I still need to update all my literature/handouts/stickers/course sales page/ etc. I also need to make more buckets to bring with us. I’ve sold out of some colors and need to restock.

Time management and the impetus to get started on stuff has been a huge issue for me, especially the last 6 months, but I guess the rapidly-approaching deadline is forcing my hand. This happened last summer as well- I put stuff off way too long and it stressed me out. Procrastination, while effective, does not help me mentally and physically.

I’m finally feeling a bit more motivated to get moving on stuff now that I’ve acknowledged the deadline that’s breathing down my neck. I unpacked my shipment from Uline (the display stuff), contacted a graphic designer on fiverr to make a t-shirt/sticker design for me and got out the bucket materials to get started on.

Covid-wise, Jeremy has mostly been really tired with a nasty cough and congestion. Wednesday everything started smelling like bleach for him. We won’t be asking him to smell the milk anytime soon. He normally has the best sniffer and is responsible for checking if the milk is still good. Hopefully this side effect doesn’t hang around too long.

Wednesday I worked on stuff to send to the printers, but struggled to get moving.

Thursday I wanted to go for a run, but it was too wet, so I ran a couple errands instead. Afterwards I worked some more on the stuff to be printed. Graphic design is not my strong suit, but I can’t afford to hire it out yet, so I do it. Slowly.

Jeremy is still testing positive though apparently that’s not actually unusual once infected. Sunshine now has laryngitis…

Friday I got a slow start to the day, but had a pretty productive afternoon/evening. I did a little googling and figured out how to edit images in illustrator (finally) had bought a sticker design off fiverr, but wasn’t super happy with it. As much as I’m not a graphic designer, I still have ideas about things and I’m not always good at conveying them. I’d bought some image files last fall, but couldn’t figure out how to edit them. After the googling, it was actually pretty easy. Except for crop. Why do Illustrator and Inkscape not have a crop tool? Drives me nuts. Anyway, I now have a bunch of completed sticker ideas, now I just need to narrow down to one for shirts and maybe one or two for stickers for convention. I’ll gradually order the rest over time- no need to buy them all right now.

We did karate online, which means we only missed one class last week and one this week. It’s only been a week and a half, but we could all feel it. I suppose being sick to varying degrees during that week and a half didn’t help…. We won’t be doing the online class again if we can help it. The instructor wasn’t as good as our in-person instructors and he kept forgetting (didn’t know?) that his camera mirrored him, so we could never tell which arm/leg we were supposed to be using. And he insisted on showing us instead of using the video the in-person classes used this week. Super frustrating.

Saturday I got another slow start- still have some crud hanging around.

I finally got moving on the custom order that needs to ship by Monday morning.

Max got out in the first time in a long time. Open gate + open door = Max gone. After calling her from the driveway for awhile with no results, Jeremy, Sunshine, and Ocean drove around the nearby streets and finally found her. She’d rolled in something super stinky again. 🤦‍♀️

I worked on other little details for convention. Setup my youtube channel and a bitly link to it to include with one of the items I’m selling at the convention. The link will be to videos showing how to sew the items. I finalized which design for shirts and which for stickers so I can get orders placed. I should have done those weeks ago and it’ll be cutting it close on delivery times. Oops.
