River is convinced that only married people have cooties (ie, Mom and Dad).
I asked, “So the cute girl from karate class doesn’t have cooties?”
River, with a smile, “No.”
Jeremy, “Wait, what cute girl at karate?”
Me, “Last cycle the boys had to go up and introduce themselves to three people in class, and River was embarrassed to talk to one of the girls and required a little extra prodding. I don’t remember her name though. Let me look it up (I wrote down the names because they had to be recorded in their black belt books). Well, it was x or y, but I don’t remember which.”
River, with no hesitation whatsoever, “It was x.”
Everyone laughed while River turned red.
He’s at the age where he’s starting to notice girls, but doesn’t know what to do about it. He also thinks he’s too cool for hugs, yet puts up with his sister grabbing him and calling for me to join her in a group hug because he secretly enjoys it. I feel like he should have waited a couple years to hit this stage, but what can you do?
